ONLY ENTERTAINMENT

This second incarnation of Only Entertainment can be seen as the 'real' Only Entertainment and in 1997 signed a contract with Roadrunner Records.

Wanting to do more shows 'cause their main bands with self written songs were having trouble finding regular gigs, in early 1994 drummer Richard (at the time in The Titfaces and in the alternative rock band Foggy Notion), guitarist Danny (The Titfaces), guitarist Jack (at the time drummer in grindcore band Sexorcist) and vocalist/bassplayer Deef (at the time frontman for Foggy Notion) came up with the idea of starting a cover band. To make this more appealing to themselves and to obtain some sort of uniqueness they decided to play classic radio hits in a US west coast punk rock style, in the vein of Bad Religion and NOFX. The name Only Entertainment was taken from a Bad Religion song.

Rehearsals started in April 1994 and the first gig was done on July 29 at a private party in Valkenburg. The band's public live debut took place on September 10, 1994, at the Haringrock festival in Scum, Katwijk. After some more shows in December and February and playing a mobile gig on a trailer towed by a tractor through the streets of Rijnsburg, Noordwijk and Katwijk on April 29, 1995, on May 17 Only Entertainment recorded a promo tape at the School of Audio Engineering in Amsterdam where singer Deef studied at the time. Because it would take too long to set up and soundcheck the drums they utilized a drum machine. Up from June 1995 the band gained momentum on the live front, some acoustic open air summer gigs included.

January 27, 1996, Only Entertainment did a gig in Eislingen in Germany, returning on June 22 at a festival in nearby Deggingen. Throughout the year they played many shows in the Amsterdam-Den Haag area, recording a live tape on September 13, 1996, that was sent to Roadrunner Records and other labels. Late December another gig in Eislingen took place, followed by a show at De Melkweg in Amsterdam in the early hours of 1997. January 2, 1997, the band was invited to the Roadrunner office in Amsterdam, and March 6 they signed a recording contract with the label. Gigs continued, mostly locally with a record of three on April 30, 1997 -- back then the annual national holiday in the Netherlands.

May 26, 1997, Only Entertainment entered Bill & Ted's Excellent Recording Studio in Amsterdam to record an album for Roadrunner Records. Over the next months the recordings were completed, but Roadrunner didn't release them. In autumn Deef traveled abroad for three months, and Danny took over the bass position while Deef's sister Irene stepped behind the mic. With this line-up one gig was done. When Deef returned the band played a string of local shows (some of them with both Deef and Irene on vocals) before taking a year off up from mid March 1998. March 1999 Only Entertainment continued with their four original members. They released the split 7" Vinally (recorded April 26, 1997, at Bill & Ted's) with The Titfaces and did a last run of gigs until early June.

Although it was the intention to end the band after their farewell show in front of 2500 people at the Berghpop festival on June 5, 1999, late May local label Wot Nxt and Only Entertainment decided to buy the unreleased recordings from Roadrunner Records. About three months after what was supposed to be their last gig the band had their album release show at a sold out Join club in Noordwijk. At this point Only Entertainment started playing live on a regular basis again for some time as the album presentation was followed by weekly gigs in their wider hometown area, while especially throughout the year 2000 they also played venues and festivals in other parts of the Netherlands.

In 2001 Only Entertainment reduced the number of gigs, leading to their final show on September 1, 2001, playing two sets at a sold out LVC in Leiden, while releasing their second cd (with live tracks and studio recordings done September 30 and October 1, 2000, in Leiden). Late 2003 a x-mas song by André Hazes the band had recorded in 2000 inadvertently won a x-mas cover contest at Dutch public broadcaster NCRV after which Only Entertainment played the song on a television show (recorded December 20, broadcasted a few days later) and live at radio show BuZz (December 21) with an extended line-up featuring second vocalist Ronald (Kru$h). Autumn 2014 the original band returned for three final gigs, followed by a 45 minute online documentary release in early 2015.
